What causes electrical problems in a car?
Common culprits are a failing battery or alternator, corroded grounds and connectors, blown fuses, bad sensors, or damaged wiring, often from rodents or moisture. We use proper diagnostic testing to trace the actual fault instead of throwing parts at the symptom.

How we trace an electrical fault
Electrical problems are where the parts-cannon approach costs the most: a shop guesses at a component, you pay for it, and the fault is still there. We work the other way. Starting from the wiring diagram, we test the actual circuit with voltage-drop and load testing, and for intermittent problems we test under the conditions that trigger them, cold, wet, or vibrating, until the fault shows itself.
That is how a mystery no-start turns out to be a corroded ground strap instead of a new computer, and why our fix is the last one. You get a written estimate once the fault is found, before any repair begins.
Why winter makes electrical problems worse
Cold is an electrical stress test. AAA notes that at 32 degrees a battery has lost about 35 percent of its strength, and at zero about 60 percent, while a cold engine can demand up to twice the normal current to start. A marginal connection that passes in July fails on the first hard freeze.
Moisture and winter road treatment corrode connectors and grounds, and rodents sheltering in warm engine bays chew insulation. It is why electrical work picks up every winter in the valley, and why we pressure-test our repairs against the conditions that caused them.
